PAINT FINISHES AND STENCILLING

We carry out a wide range of paint finishes at Prism Décor and are constantly developing fresh ideas for new and existing environments.

A popular paint finish for many years has been "Stone blocking", this being the painting of walls to imitate, for example, limestone. In approriate architectural environments, it is very successful.

Another interesting form of decoration involves the use of the Stencil. The possibilities for this medium are limitless. As we design and make our own stencils, new or existing designs can be used making this medium very versatile. Typically a design from a fabric being used for curtains or soft furnishings could be made into a stencil template.

This particular example originates from a 19th Century French silk fabric.

The photos here show a room we stencilled in Istanbul. The stencilling was painted onto foil paper using bronze powders in an acrylic medium. A weave was then painted over the finished stencil, which unified and antiqued the whole room. The finished effect was pure glitter!

The illustration shown above shows a floor in Renishaw Hall, which has been decorated with the aid of the stencil. The design for that floor was from a carpet in the Pavlov Palace in Russia.
