GILDING AND FURNITURE

A popular and time-honoured means of decoration involves the application of metal leaf to a given surface. The use of gold to highlight an architectural element can have the effect of opulence and glitter or when "antiqued" can be reserved and subtle.

Gold has been used for centuries to decorate furniture and at Prism Décor we also have a restoration department who specialise in this area.

The room above is an eighteenth century boiserie in Paris, which was restored by Prism Décor in such a way so as to keep the beautiful natural patination, which had occurred over the years.

However, parts of the gold had disappeared completely and had to be carefully reinstated.

Also illustrated above is a console table, which was made to order and then decorated with earth pigments which gave the appearance of age. We decorated the top of the table to imitate Sienna marble.

Illustrated above are two huge doors that were gilded with silver. The effect was truely dazzling.
